I fear it was an unpublished universal system, although there were some elements (the spell list got used for one of the major types of magic and we did use hit points, a similar attribute range, and some other bits) from first-edition AD&D.

Rolls were usually a number of d6 set by the difficulty under an attribute, with a range of possible results.

Characters got a selection of cultural skills, professional skills, personal racial skills (things that particular types of lifeforms could develop if they chose) and innate racial skills (things that defined a species, such as whether or not it had a material body, what kind of metabolism it had, and so on).

Dimensions were more or less resistant to various methods of manipulating things, so powers scaled to the local rules automatically. For example, a superhero campaign had low resistance to psychic powers, making them quick and easy to use. Elsewhere said superhero would scale back to the local power levels since his or her rolls were harder.

The nostalgia is getting worse. I may have to dig up some old character sheets and start posting some of that material over on my gaming pages.

He had to be rescued (which wasn't easy), since the "highly-secure" part included defenses against teleportation. He then had to do some fairly extensive redesign.

To be fair, the character was supposed to be relatively young and thoughtless and with far more power than was good for him, so careful consideration of his design really wasn't a part of his personality.

That actually came about because of wizardly meddling to begin with: one player-character mage - after ten real years and six hundred sessions or so - had become quite absurdly powerful. He'd started a (very large) family. He'd decided that it would be nice if the kids got some truly major talents to start off with, so he set it up - and he forgot to put in any age requirement on their activation. He then (partly because the player was enjoying the chaos) decided that it wouldn't be fair to put in such a restriction after the fact. Fortunately, he’d included enough regeneration to make the kids very difficult to inflict long-term damage on.

Then the other players started making archmage-kid-characters to get into youthful disasters with (and eventually third generation characters to mess with each others second-generation characters), and the side-game chaos continued for several more real years.

Sadly, these days, the players are scattered from Florida to Alaska, and we can only update by Email once in awhile.

And here I am getting nostalgic. Oh well.

That does sound troublesome. I trust he remembered to teleport out? Was he able to teleport back in?

It gets even more entertaining when not all the connections are two-way, or when some (thanks to placement errors, transient distortions in the areas you're passing through externally, or spell interactions) wind up connecting to incorrect locations and/or dimensions.

On the other hand, we've had one designer who built his super-secret, highly-secure, blocked-against-all-divination secret hiding place pocket dimension and forgot to put in an exit.

Sythyry, for all the bittersweet news you bring, it is a pleasure to again be snooping into your diary. I have no idea why a hundred-odd years have not passed in my world as they have in yours, but no matter, it's wonderful to look through this textual window into the World Tree once more.

Actually, one very interesting question: how is anyone to find anyone else within all of the eccentric geography?

With a nendrai on board who also regularly engages in egregious use of Locador, I'm not sure it particularly matters... as long as her Locador doesn't disrupt the rest.

If it does, we can all guess where the doors are going to point afterward, yes?
